History of the flag

The current flag of the African Union was adopted at the Union's 14th summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in January 2010.

The flag was selected following a continent-wide competition, and this Moroccan design was chosen.

  • The map of the African continent embodies the common identity.

  • Green means hope and prosperity for Africa.
