History of the flag

In 1966, a national competition was held to determine the national flag.

The winning design came from Mr. Samuel, an Antiguan artist and painter, selected from over 600 proposals.

What do the elements of the flag mean?

  • The colors gold, blue, and white represent the country's tourist attractions: the sun, the sea, and the Caribbean beaches' sand. The 'V' symbolizes victory. 'Victory at last!' is the name of the flag.

  • Embodies the soil and African heritage.

  • For the dynamism of the people.
