Bahrain Flag: Meaning and History

History of the flag
This archipelago, which includes the islands of Bahrain and Muharraq, has been independent since 1971.
Since 18 February 2002, the flag's serration has consisted of only five points, evoking the five pillars of Islam.
What do the elements of the flag mean?
Red is the traditional colour of the Khâridjite Muslims, a particularly rigorous branch of Islam, which advocates absolute devotion to Islam.
Originally, the flag flew only red, but the white stripe was added in accordance with the British peace treaty signed in 1820.
