Curaçao Flag: Meaning and History

History of the flag
Curaçao's flag was adopted in 1984, after the island gained autonomous status within the Netherlands Antilles.
It was chosen in a national competition, in which over 1,200 proposals were received.
What do the elements of the flag mean?

The two five-pointed stars, named Curaçao and Klein Curaçao, represent the unity of a people from five continents.

The navy blue represents the Caribbean Sea, while the yellow stripe symbolizes the tropical sun, a source of warmth and life.
