History of the flag

On the 24 of February 1848, the day the Second Republic was proclaimed, the National Decree invested a new blue-red-white tricolor flag.

Unpopular, the flag only lasted twelve days.

What do the elements of the flag mean?

  • Red represents the blood of the people and the revolution.

  • White represents the hope of a people at peace.
