Greenland Flag: Meaning and History

History of the flag
In 1985, to celebrate its semi-independence from Denmark, Greenland organized a competition to choose its flag.
Among more than 555 proposals, the one submitted by the teacher Christiansen was chosen.
What do the elements of the flag mean?

The circle represents the setting sun over the glaciers (red half ) and the ice cap (white half ).
White illustrates the ice and snow that cover most of the island.
Embodies the sun on the horizon and the cultural link with Denmark.
