History of the flag

Independent since 1958, it was the first French colony in sub-Saharan Africa to be liberated, and its flag follows the layout of the French tricolor, a symbol of freedom and human rights.

What do the elements of the flag mean?

  • Represents the sun, life and the riches of the Guinean subsoil.

  • Malachite green represents vegetation and agriculture, and is also the color of Islam, the main religion in Guinea.
