History of the flag
The colors of the Iraqi flag were inspired by Safi al-Din al-Hilli's poem :
‘Our deeds are bright, our battlefields are dark, our lands are green, and our blades are stained with the red blood of our enemies’.
What do the elements of the flag mean?
In the middle of the flag you can see ‘God is the greatest’ written in Arabic.
Red symbolizes the blood shed for independence.
White embodies hope for a radiant future and justice.
Black echoes the fight for freedom.
