History of the flag

The Leinster flag embodies the cultural identity of this eastern province.

It was gradually imposed by usage over the course of the XIXth century, with the aim of asserting Leinster's own identity.

What do the elements of the flag mean?

  • The harp is one of Ireland's oldest and most emblematic symbols. It embodies Gaelic culture, traditional music and Irish heritage.
