Netherlands Flag: Meaning and History

History of the flag
It was in 1573, during the struggle for independence of the Netherlands then under Spanish domination, that the dynastic colors orange-white-blue were adopted.
In 1937, red replaced orange, and the current flag became official.
What do the elements of the flag mean?
Originally orange to recall the prince's coat of arms, the stripe became red because it was more visible on the high seas.
White is the color of purity and peace.
The blue echoes the North Sea.
