History of the flag

This flag, adopted in 1996, combines the historic symbols of the territories making up the PACA region (Provence, Dauphiné and Nice within the same region).

What do the elements of the flag mean?

  • Illustrates Dauphiné, the dauphin being a symbol of nobility.

  • The red eagle on a white background represents the County of Nice.

  • The four red stripes on a gold background embody the coat of arms of Provence.
