Slovakia Flag: Meaning and History

History of the flag
In 1920, after freeing themselves from Austrian domination, the Czech and Slovak peoples united under a single flag.
The current banner of Slovakia was adopted in 1992, after having been under Soviet rule.
What do the elements of the flag mean?

Against a red shield, the white patriarchal cross rises above the blue mountains of Tatra, Matra and Fatra, the country's highest peaks.
These colors are typical of the Panslavic countries, the romantic movement by which Slavs, all stemming from a common trunk, were destined to find a united community.
