History of the flag

Adopted in 1948 by the Republic of Vietnam, the flag was maintained until the fall of Saigon in 1975.

Since the Communist Party took power in Vietnam, the South Vietnamese flag has been banned from the country.

What do the elements of the flag mean?

  • The three main regions of the country that fought against communism : - Tonkin, - Annam - Cochinchina.

  • The bright yellow background represents the golden skin of the Vietnamese people, and more broadly the Vietnamese land.
