The flag of Tunisia

For this thirteenth episode, let's travel to the heart of Africa:

Off to Tunisia!

The Tunisian flag is one of the oldest in the Arab world still in use.
Adopted in 1831 under the reign of Bey Hussein II, then reaffirmed after independence in 1956, it has become the emblem of unity, heritage and modernity for the Tunisian people.

๐ŸŒ™โญ A croissant and a star in the heart

At the center of the flag is a white crescent surrounding a red five-pointed star :

  • The crescent represents Islam , the majority religion and cultural pillar of the country

  • The five-pointed star symbolizes the five pillars of Islam , but also national unity and the values โ€‹โ€‹of independence.

The central position of these elements embodies the central place of Arab-Muslim identity in Tunisian society.

โšช A circle of peace

The crescent and star are placed inside a white circle , which represents:

  • Purity

  • Peace

  • The dialogue between modernity and tradition

An empty space... but full of meaning.

๐ŸŽจ The meaning of colors:

๐Ÿ”ด Red: Blood of martyrs, resistance, pride

โšช๏ธ White: Peace, purity, balance

๐ŸŒ™ Croissant: Islam, cultural identity

โญ Star: The five pillars, unity and guiding light
