The flag of Argentina

For this fourteenth episode, let's travel to the heart of South America:

Off to Argentina!

The Argentine flag is one of the most poetic in Latin America.
Created in 1812 by General Manuel Belgrano, hero of independence, it was officially adopted in 1816 , the same year Argentina became a free nation.
A flag that looks towards the sky , the light, and the future.

☁️ Three stripes, one message of hope

The flag consists of three horizontal stripes :

  • Two sky blue stripes at the top and bottom

  • A white stripe in the center

According to the most popular version, these colours evoke the sky and clouds that opened over Buenos Aires in 1810, at the time of the May Revolution.

Blue for the clear sky, white for peace and purity.
It is a light, bright and symbolically elevated flag.

☀️ The May Sun: light and freedom

In the center of the white band, there is a golden sun with a human face , known as “Sol de Mayo” (the Sun of May).

  • It symbolizes the May Revolution of 1810 , the first step towards independence.

  • It refers to the Inca sun god Inti , a nod to pre-Columbian roots

  • It has 32 alternating rays (straight and wavy), representing the light that diffuses everywhere

This sun is the only “face” on a national flag . It embodies the strength, freedom, and light of peoples in struggle.

🎨 The meaning of colors:

🔵 Sky blue: The sky, freedom, loyalty

⚪️ White: Peace, unity, clarity

☀️ Golden Sun: Revolution, light, Inca heritage
